East WoolWorks is based in Puyuan (濮院), Zhejiang — the single largest knitwear production and distribution hub on earth. When you work with us, you are working with a factory on the floor here, not an agent forwarding your files elsewhere.
It is hard to overstate what this means. Roughly seven of every ten sweaters in the world pass through this one town. That concentration of yarn, machinery, design and skill — built over decades and within walking distance — is the quiet engine behind every order we take.
Puyuan's textile story did not begin with wool — it begins almost nine centuries ago, and never stopped.
Textile craft takes root here in the Southern Song dynasty — Puyuan silk, prized for its fine, soft, durable hand. Cloth-making has been in this town's blood for centuries.
The modern sweater industry is born when a local cooperative buys three hand-operated flat-knitting machines. From those three machines, a craft economy grows.
Family workshops spread across the town and a vast wool-sweater market forms, drawing buyers from Shanghai and beyond. Knitting becomes Puyuan's identity.
Manual machines gave way to computerized and now intelligent flat-knitting, with digital production tracking — old craft, modern precision.
